I’m really stoked that the U20 qualifying games for the World Cup has finally kicked off—and it’s off to a great start- GO USA! Today Jamaica and Guatemala’s keepers did a remarkable job, leaving the match to a tied 0-0 score. Both teams took outside shots while USA dominated with shots on goal inside the 18 against Costa Rica, ending it with a 6-0 score. Horan had an awesome game-what an amazing header!!! USA showed quality play throughout the match-a very solid game by USA. I’m looking forward to seeing what they bring to the pitch on Saturday!
I’m currently coaching a player on my varsity team who plays for the USA international team. What I love about these games is that it gives younger soccer players a realistic and very achievable goal, to play on the U17 or U20 team, working toward one day being able to compete at the top level. It helps players to adapt to the demands of the elite level of play, while, at the same time, providing players with a strong foundation. A strong foundation is crucial. What I love about coaching soccer at 6 Points is that I don’t coach to win. I coach to better the player, to give him or her, regardless of gender or age, a strong foundation so they can continue to build on that foundation throughout their soccer careers.
