Team USA handily defeated Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, January 17th, to advance to the final round of the CONCAF under-20 Women’s Championship, where it will face off against Mexico. Team USA continued its defensive dominance, allowing Trinidad only one scoring opportunity the entire game – a shot from Anique Walker that went wide. On the offensive end of the field, Team USA took complete ownership inside their opponent’s 18-yard box, scoring six goals.
A team’s strength often stems from the hardships its players have overcome. Both of Team USA’s under-20 Women’s World Cup titles in 2008 and 2012 came on the heels of bitterly disappointing losses in 2006 and 2010. The team learned from each of its losses and came back to the next Cup more determined than ever.
