Meet the Bloggers - Dr. Alexander Cohen
Hello all! I was born and raised in Darlington, SC and attended Beth Israel Congregation in Florence. After college and medical school I moved back home to Darlington where I practice Family Medicine at Pee Dee Health Care, PA, and occasionally take care of NASCAR drivers when the race comes to town.
I am married to the former Dyan Roth of Philadelphia and we have two children, David 16 and Ginny, 14. My wife was re-elected to the city council for a second four year term earlier this month (female, Jewish and a yankee running for election in a small southern town...who would have thought??).
We are active in our 65 family congregation and I am a past president and have been on the synagogue board for over 15 years.
I am a past VP from South Carolina for the SE Council of the URJ and have been a member of the URJ Board of Trustees for the past eight years. I currently serve as the Chairperson of the Small Congregations Committee. I also serve on the Small Congregations Loan Fund Committee and the New Congregations Orientation and Mentoring Committee.
The upcoming biennial convention promises to be very busy but a lot of fun. I look forward to meeting old friends and making new friends. I am excited about many of the different events and workshops that will be available for small congregations and particularly pleased that delegates from small congregations will have a designated hospitality room in which they may meet and network. There are so many different opportunities to learn things to take back to your home congregation.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Biennial.
