All is Well Two Days Out - The Jay and Shirley Report
Two days out and everything is on schedule. The weather today in San Diego was absolutely ideal and it should just get better as the week goes on. Warm sunny days, cool clear nights - what more could one ask for in December? The Union staff arrived today and the Union office is set up and running. All the name tags are printed and ready to be distributed to registrants as they check in at registration starting Tuesday at noon in the Convention Center. The local arrangements office is also up and running and volunteers from the host congregations start checking in Tuesday at 9 a.m. The exhibition hall is being set up - it's really amazing to watch how a vast empty space is turned into a marketplace! Below you can see a picture of the exhibition space just being set up.
Preconvention meetings and programs started Monday evening and continue Tuesday morning and afternoon along with a variety of Union Committee meetings. The Board dinner is Tuesday night at the San Diego Museum of Natural History where the dead sea scrolls are on display. We hope as many of you as possible will have a chance to get over to see this spectacular exhibit. We found out just today that the curators selected San Diego for the venue for the exhibition because the Biennal is taking place here in San Diego!
Tomorrow biennial attendees start arriving in large numbers. There are a great number of of local activities to enjoy before the Biennial begins - the famous Zoo, beautiful Balboa Park and its museums, Point Loma, Sea World or a trip out of the country to Tijuana, Mexico on the trolley that stops at the border where you can walk across and back and avoid the long lines of cars waiting to cross back in the the US. Lots of things to see and do here - you won't be disappointed with this great city. Oh, and did we mention the great restaurants in the Gaslamp District just across from the Convention Center?
