Tonight's lineup: Joe Black, Beth Schafer, and Peri Smilow
Get ready for a night of fabulous music. The evening is capped off with a concert by Joe Black, Beth Schafer, and Peri Smilow.
Rabbi Joe Black has produced several critically acclaimed albums of Jewish music, a songbook and two videos. His music is widely sung by youth throughout the Movement. Rabbi Black serves as senior rabbi of Congregation Albert in Albuquerque, NM. Listen to his song Eight Nights of Joy.
Beth Schafer has been blazing a trail in contemporary Jewish music for more than a decade. She has performed the half-time show for the Orlando Magic and was the winner of the faith-based competition on “American Idol Underground" in 2006. Beth also serves as the cantorial leader of Temple Shir Shalom in Oviedo, Florida. Listen to her song In This House (live).
Peri Smilow is a nationally recognized singer/songwriter, educator and community organizer. Her most recent recording, Peri Smilow and The Freedom Music Project: The Music of Passover and the Civil Rights Movement features an electrifying 18-voice choir of young Black and Jewish singers celebrating the freedom music of their traditions, and was nominated “Best Gospel Album” of the Year (2002) by the Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
