I grew up at Jewish summer camp, went to Jewish day school, and have been a Jewish community professional for a decade. And despite my lifetime immersion in Jewish life, I have spent the last three days since I arrived at OSRUI with a perpetual smile on my face, blown away by the campers’ enthusiasm, the educators’ talents, and the counselors’ commitment.

I heard the counselor say, “Let me tell you. You are a good person. You are special and important and there are people who love you.”

I paused; she had a point. For years I had given teeth-brushing as an example of repeated action that was not ritual. Now I had to rethink my examples.
