As summer 2011 winds down and record numbers of kids are coming home from Jewish camp, parents all over North America are wondering: What did my child do this summer at camp? The Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) is pleased to share that amidst the lip dubs and flash mobs, campfire sing-alongs and Maccabiah competitions, kids of all ages were participating in a variety of amazing and inspiring activities at nonprofit Jewish overnight camps this summer.

A garden at Jewish summer camp: Who knew what its effects would be?
on July 17, 2011
Every summer growing up I would arrive at my favorite place on Earth with jitters in my stomach, wondering who my bunk mate would be and if I would get the top bunk. These feelings were always part of the first day of camp at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute. I was always so antsy driving through the gates and having our lunch and introductions “upstairs” (the area where the buildings and cabins were). I couldn’t wait to head “downstairs” (the area where we lived in tents as opposed to cabins), to my home for the next three to six weeks.

What’s the story with Sustainability Man?
on June 20, 2011
Greening Greene Family Camp has always been a priority of staff and campers. This is our summer home and we want to make sure it’s around forever and in it’s best shape! But sometimes, even when something’s really, really important we need little reminders to do the right thing, to turn the lights off EVERY time we leave the cabin and to walk that 5 extra feet to recycle the plastic bottle rather than throw it away.
