In every year, in every song, and in every sunrise, I feel a stronger sense of purpose, commitment and spiritual growth than I did in the last, and I hope and pray that I continue to feel that awe in the face of such a holy community.
Getting into Character for Camp with Kivun
on June 15, 2012
On May 21, summer staff from URJ and Ramah camps gathered in Clayton, Georgia for the Kivun Performing Arts training. The workshop aimed to provide participants with general learning time together to explore techniques for integrating Judaism into the arts, as well as time to focus on their specific specialty.
Being a Nature Jew
on
It was almost 20 years ago to the day that, I too, embarked on my Jewish journey as a “nature Jew” – when I truly fell head over heels in love with Judaism. Making Music and Memories at Hava Nashira
on June 7, 2012
My experience at Hava Nashira has not only equipped me to be a better and stronger songleader, but it has truly changed my life for the better. The people you meet here are exceptional and the relationships that you make are completely lifelong. This group is truly one of a kind.
The Voices That Connect Us
on
Last week I had the accidental good fortune of being part of a new AviChai Foundation program called Kivun. This program invited young leaders from URJ and Ramah camps to work together at camp sites across the country to delve deeply into a particular area of camping and leadership, doing so in partnership with these two movements in a desire to share best practices, to learn from each other, and to create more meaningful relationships among all those who care about the work of Jewish camping.
The Football Rebellion and Striking the Right Balance at Camp
on June 5, 2012
In the middle of the game, when the campers figured out that the coach was playing with the rules, they just stopped: What we had on our hands was nothing short of a rebellion that would make Korach proud. We quickly learned on that day that adding Jewish learning in to a beloved specialty required a delicate balance of Judaism, specialty, participant and leader.
