From Western Mass to the Western Wall

Kotel MishlachatEach summer, our Israeli staff members bring so much to camp. Aside from being outstanding counselors, coaches, instructors and specialists, the members of our Mishalachat are truly emissaries of Israel. By sharing their personal stories and love of their homeland, they ignite an inquisitiveness among our campers and staff to not only learn more but also to connect more with the land and people of Israel. Unit Shlichim weaved Israel-themed activities into evening programs. “Mar Milon” (that’s Mr. Dictionary, in English) flew into the Chadar Ochel at lunch to teach us Hebrew words and phrases. And all of our Israeli staff worked together to present Yom Israel, an unforgettable day of campwide activities tracing the path of Israel’s independence. And just as these experiences leave a lasting impact on our entire camp community, they also accompany our Israeli staff when they return home.

Over the course of various activities last summer, many of our Shlichim collected notes from our campers containing their hopes and wishes. A small group of these staff members recently gathered in Jerusalem to personally deliver our campers’ prayers to the Kotel. We’re so proud of the bond between Eisner Camp and Israel, and we’re grateful each summer for the extraordinary staff members who help us renew and strengthen that special connection.
