We at Eisner are proud to offer our campers the opportunity to learn from various guest athletes and artists. This past week, professional Israeli basketball players Lior Lipshits and Ofir Farhi made their way to Great Barrington to lead a unique clinic which not only improved campers’ basketball skills, but also their practical Hebrew repertoire. Bonim camper Daniel was eager to share some of what he learned at the clinic; “We learned how to say basketball words like ‘ball’, ‘pass’, ‘dribble’, and ‘jump!’”
Lior and Ofir have impressive basketball pedigrees, each of them having represented Israel in European Championship competition (Lior for the Men’s Under-20 national team in 2004 and Ofir for the Men’s Under-18 and Under-20 national teams from 2004-2006) and playing in division one of the Israeli Basketball Super League over the past seven years. In addition to working with campers over the course of two days, Lior and Ofir ran a professional-style practice for staff members at night. Even our director joined in on the fun! When asked for comment, Louis exclaimed, “They finally taught this old man how to stop throwing up bricks and shoot a jumper!” Bonim counselor Mike also commented on the impact that the intense practice had on his game, “A lot of the drills they ran forced me to really look at the game with new eyes.”
Their intensity notwithstanding, Lior and Ofir were extremely approachable throughout their time at camp. Naomi added, “It was also really cool to get to know them. They were really nice guys.” We thank Lior and Ofir for their contributions to the Eisner Camp community and wish them the best of luck this upcoming season!
