Big Sister Little Sister: Building Friendships Between Our Youngest and Oldest Campers

Hey Camp George!

A few days ago, I had the privilege of joining in Big Sister Little Sister day, which paired the girls of BG and N2 together for a day. Each Barak camper had a Nitzotzot little sister, and the cabins were scheduled at activities together for the day. They even sat together at lunch! I was so impressed with the staff who facilitated this, and with the leadership of the Barak girls, that I knew I had to share this with you! Be sure to also check out this video, which showcases some of the highlights of the program.

A look at the Big Sister Little Sister Day…

After breakfast, the girls met up, were introduced, and divided into Big Sister Little Sister partnerships.  Next (after Nikayon of course!) the girls met up at Drama, in themed pink outfits. At Drama, they played mixers and improvisation games that helped them get to know each other and build bonds!

The girls also spent time together at Paddlesports and Swim, where they had a blast working together to canoe, build sand castles and swim! During lunch, it was so wonderful to see the Big Sisters helping the Little Sisters to navigate the Chadar and help serve them food. The Big Sisters are clearly great staff in the making!

What the girls had to say about it…

Ryann from N2: It was great! And I love my big sister. We went canoeing together which was so fun, and we even won the canoe race!

Jodi from BG: It was really fun! I love spending time with younger campers. I had so much fun making handshakes up with the N2 girls!

Emily from N2: I had a lot of fun playing at Drama. I liked the day because we got to talk about things at camp. We played Q+A with to the big sisters when we canoed to the island. We got to ask questions about what it’s like to be older at camp, like: “Do you get to choose activities? Do you still get tuck?”

Jessica from BG: It’s been really great! My favorite part was when we went kayaking and then did “mud baths” in the lake!

Rudi from BG: It was a good experience, especially because we will be C.I.T’s next summer. I really had fun hanging with Ryann, and her pet caterpillar – Sticky!

Ellie from N2: I liked EVERYTHING today! I don’t have a sister (I love my brothers), but it was really nice to get to hang out with the big girls.

Sydney from BG: The day was really good. We got to bond a lot with the Nitzotzot girls and learn a lot about them!
