Shoresh Worship Chug: Where do you find your second soul on Shabbat?

Mah Tovu pg 192

Today our theme is where do you find your second soul on Shabbat. On Shabbat, I find my 2nd soul right where we are…the Beit Tefilah. The reason I find my second soul here is that this is where all my thoughts about Judaism and life come together. The reason that this is the place that I feel all my thoughts about Judaism and life come together is because this is where I can pray about Judaism, life, and my family. I feel prayer on Shabbat is where people like me can gain their second soul. Shabbat Shalom! – Olivia M.

Our theme today is where do you find your second soul. I find my second soul in the last 30 minutes of free time on Saturday because I am in the pool. When I am in the pool all my thoughts come together like how much fun I had until then. It is a time where I can always be myself. The reason my thoughts come together is the cool crystal water flows through my hair as I swim under water. I plan on doing this today. – Eva C.

Where do I find my second soul on Shabbat? When I first heard this question I immediately knew that I wouldn’t be able to write a service part about it. But I knew I would have to. So I thought about it. I realized that with all of the singing, dancing, and praying we do get a second soul. I find my second soul right here in the Beit Tefilah. It is so holy and I feel so close to God. This is where I find my second soul. – Sara N.

I find my second soul when I’m on the soccer field or on the dance floor, because I can truly be me just like I can at GUCI. – Emily L.

Second soul? Do I even have one? Depending on how you see yourself, you can or cannot. If negativity is in charge of your life you may not have one, but if positivity is in charge you can have a second soul. One question is, where do you find your second soul? On a treasure or scavenger hunt? In the box with the sweater your grandmother gave you? It’s where you put it. I put mine in Israeli dancing, Shabbat song session, and camp bonfires. Having Carrie teach us dancing, Brad sing songs, and Rabbi Mark tell stories, that’s all I need to enjoy myself with my friends and retrieve my second soul. – Lydia E.

What I think as the service theme suggests is that people have two souls. One that they express and one that they don’t. Finding your real soul is just as difficult as showing it. However on Shabbat during dinner and song session when we’re jumping and singing or when we’re eating wherever we want and meeting friends from other cabins or meeting completely new people that you can connect with and that is when you can find your second soul and express your real self. – Connor M.

My second soul is during services, because I feel connected to G-d and I feel in a community. – Max L.

Probably my second soul will be at services because not only are we saying beautiful prayers and blessings, we come together as a community. That is my second soul! – Steven S.

Our service theme is finding your second soul on Shabbat. Some people may say “what is a soul?” A soul is something that makes you be you. I think that my second soul on Shabbat is song session. I get to be happy, energetic, and have fun. Those three things on song session make me be myself. I am glad that my second soul is on Shabbat song session. Nowhere else on Shabbat can top that. – Jace D.

Shabbat is a time to be yourself. I find my second soul on Shabbat by having more time to rest. By having more time to rest on Shabbat it brings out the more relaxed side of me. How do you find your second soul on Shabbat? – Eli K.

I find my second soul on Shabbat when we’re at Shabbat song session. I find it there for 3 reasons. First, I find it there because I get to hang out with my friends, who I’ve seen for the past three years. Next, there is so much energy there so I can go totally crazy, and sing we’re at GUCI, nobody will care. Finally, I find my second soul at Friday night song session because I get to do what we, GUCI, all love to do and sing. – Micah D.
