Student Spotlight: Mitchell Leff, Rutgers University
April 6, 2009
Mitchell Leff is a Junior at Rutgers University. He is obsessed with sports and is studying communication in order to pursue a career related to that passion. He is from Short Hills, New Jersey, and grew up at Temple Emanu-El in Livingston, NJ.
Currently Mitchell serves on the Rutgers Hillel Board as Reform Community Chair. Along with his co-chair Jessica Bernstein, he has started to transform the growing Reform community at Rutgers. He and Jessica have recently enjoyed monumental accomplishments in both the religious and social aspects of Reform life on campus. Mitchell leads the Reform services for Hillel and has finally begun attracting a minyan (most recently, 11 people attended, and he is sure this number will grow!).
Just this past week the Rutgers KESHER group took a trip to temple B'nai Jeshrun in New York City, where they attended Shabbat services. Everyone had a great time! Mitchell feels that he is finally starting to make students at Rutgers feel proud to be Reform Jews. He hopes to continue to serve as the head of the Reform community next year as elections are just around the corner.
When he is not in class or chilling at Hillel, Mitchell is usually at home watching a good movie or playing madden on his PS3.
