The Power of Friendship

Video by Miranda Rosen, NFTY-SW Ruach Chair
Recap by Ruben Arquilevich, Director, URJ Camp Newman

Utter Joy, Peace, Acceptance.

These are the feelings that perhaps best described the recent West Coast Party, held at URJ Camp Newman on January 13-16th, 2012. The weekend, which welcomed over 500 teens and young adults, was the largest gathering of Jewish teenagers of the year. Representatives from Camp Newman, Camp Kalsman, Kutz Camp, EIE, Mitzvah Corps and NFTY CWR, SoCal, SW and NW filled our Camp with voices of prayer, music, laughter, social justice, Jewish living and friendship. This video, created by one of the WCP participants, tells the story of the power of Jewish Camp, NFTY and URJ Youth/young adult immersive experiences.

High School participants demonstrated, Utter Joy (Jewish value of Simcha), Peace (Shalom), and Acceptance and Celebration (betzelem Elohim – Jewish value that we are all created in the image of God and have divine gifts to share), for each other as sacred individuals within a holy community.  It was truly beautiful to witness.
