As we write this, Hevrah 2012 is enthusiastically preparing itself for the first ever Hevrah Justice Festival. Many of our parents will come to Santa Rosa for the occasion, and tonight, all of our task forces will present what they’ve learned. We’re all still hard at work.
The amount we’ve done in the short space of three weeks is phenomenal. T’Fillah has led a beautiful service and has two more planned, one of tonight and one for tomorrow. On-camp expressions has already choreographed our fantastic flash mob, while their off-camp counterparts have been hard at work designing our incredible t-shirts (design still under-wraps!). Guerilla Theatre has been practicing their skits around camp for presentation to the population of Sacramento. Lobbying has been working hard at creating their presentations for both tonight’s parents and tomorrow’s state senators. Of course, publicity has been publicizing all of it!
Tomorrow morning we will be waking up much earlier than we’ve become used to in order to board a bus that will take us down Porter Creek Road, all the way to Sacramento, where our hard work will reach its pinnacle in one fantastic day in the state capital.
By the way, we’ve also received the news that the projected temperature in Sacramento for August 6th is 104 degrees. Let’s hope the capitol building has good air conditioning!
We’ve learned so much over the course of the session, not just about education, but also about economic injustice and other issues that surround problems in the classroom and in our schools. We’re ready to tell Sacramento about what we’ve learned and what we think everyone should know. We’re ready to tell state senators that not only are English and Math important, but so are Extracurricular, Science, and History classes. We’ve prepared ourselves to present on teachers’ unions, the good and the bad, and we’ve educated ourselves about post-secondary education.
So, Sacramento, are you ready?
