Unfortunately, gun violence enters our lives when we least expect it. As a movement based off the principle of tzedek, or justice, it is not enough for us to only recognize what is happening. It is our duty as NFTYites, as Jews, and as people to ensure gun violence is no longer part of our culture. There are many measures we can take towards raising awareness to gun violence prevention, but we need your help to make it happen.

My Legs Were Praying

That is entrenched racism. That is privilege. That is why I walked and thought and prayed my way from Selma to Montgomery; it’s not enough for only my teens to be safe. Emma Lazarus wrote, “until we are all free, we are none of us free.” Repairing the world requires activism on behalf of everyone. Social action is just that – action. It comes from a life of movement, continuing to put one foot in front of the other, praying with our legs, marching toward justice.

The following is a selection from a D’var Torah given by Danielle Wright at NFTY-CAR Kolbo, May 3rd, 2014.

As I completed my thought process, I reflected on my NFTY experience.I remember one particular topic. B’tzelem Elohim. In the image of G-D. (It also happens to be my favorite Dan Nichols song!) None the less, after pondering my original reaction to the Torah portion, I began to wonder about how I am looked at by G-D. Because I perceived this Torah portion to be a little ADHD, does that therefore make me ADHD? I also had an initial reaction to this portion being egocentric. Does this make me an egocentric person?I then wondered that if G-D is Holy and One, are WE, then, Holy and One?
