MVP Monday: Finding Opportunities for Leadership

NFTY Leadership is a great experience that few get the opportunity to enjoy. We have both been blessed with the privilege of being a part of our respective regional boards; however, there are moments where everyone has the chance to shine as a leader. Before running for our positions as MVPs, we both had been given the ability to be leaders without a title.

NFTY-PAR: Going out on a Limb

I saw in full action at Fall Kallah. I witnessed emerging leaders in the region try new ways to engage their peers, new ways to quiet a room, new ways to teach an old lesson, and much more. Some of these new methods worked amazingly, and some of them failed. But every time something new occurred it was due to a brave leader going out on a limb and trying it. That, right there, is the magic.

MVP Monday: This I Believe

The sole reason I love NFTY is because it is changes lives. NFTY is my favorite program I have taken part in because of the people who are willing to go farther, think deeper, and feel more. People feel nostalgic about the places they call home because of the atmospheres created within them. An atmosphere of love and care is one that is welcoming and accepting of everyone who is willing to take the chance of joining in. As the New York City Membership Vice President, I have taken the initiative to tweak my job description. My job is not to recruit members and increase members, but to do what I love to do: meet amazing people, create meaningful relationships with them, and then show them the beautiful world of NFTY.

NFTY-PAR: As Jews We Hold On To Hope

Hope can get complicated in our modern world. What are we supposed to hope for? Hope for peace in the Middle East? Hope to get an A on our math test? Hope that this D’var is over soon? I can’t answer those questions for you. We all hope for different things. What I do hope is that we can all strive to follow the Golden Rule “do not unto others as you would have them do unto you”. No matter what types of people we encounter, it is our purpose as Jews to hold onto hope for a better world and mutual understanding among all people.

MVP Monday: Socials and Mixers Gone Wrong

Believe it or not, not all programs go as planned. In all honesty for MVP’s this is especially true, and for some pretty frequent, when it comes to mixers and socials. I’ve experienced this first hand a couple of times already, and to say the least there’s only so much you can do to prepare. I particularly experienced this at NFTY-OV’s Leadership Training Kallah (LTK).

NFTY-SO: Bringing the Holy Home – NFTY Southern’s Social Action Day

At NFTY Southern Institute, teens worked together to define what makes NFTY Southern a kehillah kedoshah, a holy community. To wrap up the weekend, we sent them with the charge of “bringing the holy home” – taking the holiness that they create in our NFTY regional community, and sharing it with the communities they are a part of. In our first Regional Social Action Day, they did just that.

Thank you to Emma Figarsky, 10th grade from Little Rock, and Benny Meltzer, 11th grade from Baton Rouge, for sharing their insight and reflections on this experience!
