NFTY-OV: Strong As Stone

It was such a surreal feeling as I sat in the senior circle of my final NFTY event. I can’t help but think back to the person I was at my first event; just a little eighth grader who had no idea what lie ahead of me. I would give anything to take my younger self aside and explain all of the things I would do in the future, the people I would meet and the opportunities I would have; all thanks to NFTY.

So there were these two armies, the Israelites and the Philistines, camped on two sides of a valley in Israel. The Philistines are attempting to dismantle the newly formed kingdom of Israel. Now, it was common practice in those days for armies to fight in a type of battle called single-combat in which both armies send down one warrior to fight and decide the battle.

The Power of Generational Leadership

At NFTY Convention 2015 in Atlanta a couple of weekends ago, I watched with many past NFTY Board members as the 2015-2016 NFTY Board-Elect took the stage for the first time. Suddenly, as we began to sing Josh Nelson’s version of L’dor V’dor, a wave of nostalgia swelled within me and I finally understood the impact of generational leadership – it just happened two years after my time on NFTY Board.

MVP Monday: Lead From Your Seat

I want to encourage everyone to be that leader from their seat. In most cases, the best leaders are the people who actively engage in the programs, who bring forth new ideas, and who show that they truly care about the organization. Titles don’t matter; what really counts is that you show your passion and love for NFTY. Do that, and people will notice. They will turn their heads towards you when a leader is needed because a title does not define a leader, a leader defines a leader.
