NFTY-NEL: Standing Resolute

NFTY-NEL has the ability to change the world.

Since I joined NFTY over a year ago, this sentence has been said to me time and time again, but for a long time it seemed as if it was more of a dream than a reality. Changing the world is such a massive project, and I couldn’t comprehend how a two hundred teenagers would be able to do this.

NFTY-STR: Ice Cubes and Rocks

This past Wednesday, September 3, SchZFTY (Congregation Schaarai Zedek’s temple youth group) hosted their first open house, a forum for our teens to simply hang out and get to know one another on a much more personal level. As decided by our youth advisor, Lindsey Morgan, and myself, at each open house of the 2014-2015 year, SchZFTYites will have the unique opportunity to participate in a 30 to 45 minute program addressing a social action theme correlating to either NFTY-STR SAVP (Social Action Vice President) Noah Baker’s Monthly Mitzvah Theme, or a congregation-wide tzedakah theme. As SchZFTY’s SAVP, one of my responsibilities is to collaborate with Lindsey and our programming team to write and conduct these programs.

NFTY-PAR: United Donations

NFTY brings thousands of Jewish teenagers from across the country together. People might ask the significance of NFTY and one might answer, “to form friendships” while another might say, “to learn about Judaism.” It took me a while to realize what made NFTY special to me as an individual.

NFTY-PAR: Operation Inclusion

During Summer Leadership Kallah, participants were able to sign up for two sessions of board workshops. Workshops varied from teaching about how to turn something negative in your life to a poistive to evaluating what body language means to teaching the value and importance of clear communication. My workshop was about one of the three North American campaigns NFTY is focusing on in the upcoming year. These campaigns include discussing LGBTQIA rights, taking a stand on gun violence, and, NFTY’s guide to inclusion.
