Act Now to Save Troy Davis
Over the past year, I’ve kept you posted on Troy Davis’s ongoing struggle prove his innocence and be released from death row. Now, the time has come to act! Around the world, thousands of people (including Susan Sarandon, Pope Benedict XVI and former President Jimmy Carter), are asking Chatham County District Attorney, Larry Chisolm, to reopen Troy Davis’s case and give him the chance to prove his innocence with new information that has come to light since his 1989 trial.
Mr. Davis was convicted for the murder of police officer Mark MacPhail in Savanna, GA, despite the fact that there was no physical evidence, no DNA, no smoking gun, tying him to the crime. On top of that, since his trial, 7 of the 9 witnesses in his case have recanted their testimony, some citing police pressure to testify. To make matters worse, “several people have said that one of those who testified at Davis’s trial, Sylvester ‘Redd’ Coles, has admitted to them that he was the killer.” So please, take action now, sign the petition and ask Larry Chisolm to give Troy Davis a chance to prove his innocence!
Mr. Davis has been in legal limbo for quite some time now. Just a few weeks ago, the Supreme Court of the United States ended its term without acting on the case, which means that Mr. Davis’s appeal must wait until the next term this fall. But just because SCOTUS is taking a break, doesn’t mean we should stop advocating on Mr. Davis’s behalf! Already, 60,000 signatures have been delivered to Mr. Chisolm’s office, and now we’re aiming for 100,000. Tell your family, friends, coworkers, everyone you know about Troy Davis’s case, and get them all to sign this petition! In Mr. Davis’s own words, “may God keep us all safe to do all we can to change the world, one state at a time.”
