Now More Than Ever, We Need Shabbat

    War's raging in Gaza,
    Israelis are dead,
Children are crying; they need to be fed.
Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam,
Who hallows us with mitzvot and commands us to kindle the lights of Shabbat.

May they illumine these difficult days,
May they guide us to brighter tomorrows.

    Gone are jobs,
    The Dow is down,
Who knows about the coming rebound?
Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam,
Creator of the fruit of the vine.

May its sweetness remind us of happier times,
May it point us toward the good days yet to be.

    Corruption is rampant,
    Scandals abound,
The world's moral compass is turned all around.
Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam,
Who brings forth bread from the earth.

    May it sustain us today,
May it give us strength for the future.

Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.
Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.
Now more than ever, we need Shabbat.

    Shabbat shalom.
