    How about some of our poetry? Some people still like the Psalms, even though they are much older than Haiku, which was originated by a Japanese student of Taoism and became a standard in Shinto Japan. If we could enlarge our discussion to the Bible, this would allow inclusion of Jewish and American poetry.
