    Is this the Torah

    Or a medical handbook

    For the priests to use?

    Some would say Torah

    Is a medical handbook

    For healing our souls.

What good are quarantine and sacrifice instructions for Hansons disease (a bacterial infection that damages the skin, peripheral nerves in the hands and feet and mucous membranes in the throat, nose and eyes, also known as leprosy) to us in 21st century America? What is there that we are to apply today in the instructions regarding a woman's menstruation or a man's discharge of semen?

Just because some folks in Babylon (or ancient Iraq) thought this was worth knowing a couple thousand years before modern medicine and the understanding of bacterial infection, why devote our attention for yet another week to this obsolete medical text instead of the heart of the Bible, the part that applies to us as Americans today?
