For those of you who do not yet know, this summer we've been very lucky to
welcome two very special guests to Camp George. Throughout various camp
programs each week, both "Duv-Duvon" Don Cherry and the Holy Goalie come out in
support of our summer 2010 theme, "K'doshim T'hiyu: JUST.BE.HOLY!"
We understand this motto, derived from the Holiness Code in Leviticus 19, as a
call to do acts of justice and righteousness throughout our lives. For
more information on this, visit Rabbi Noam Katz's previous blog entry here.
This summer, the George Community is supporting Camp Dream Street (www.dreamstreetms.org), a weeklong
program for children with physical disabilities run by our sister camp, URJ
Henry S. Jacobs Camp, in Utica, Mississippi. By linking ourselves with
other URJ camps and initiatives like DreamStreet, we embody the lessons of Torah
and demonstrate one of the staples of Reform Judaism--doing whatever we can to
fix the world, one deed at a time. To learn more about this project and
how you can personally get involved, watch this video.
As the Development Director of URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp one of my duties is to work to raise money for Camp Dream Street. I was thrilled to receive a donation today from Camp George providing 2 camp scholarships for the Dream Street-MS. This is gracious gift is greatly appreicated and will make a difference. The staff and campers of Camp George have created a Holy community. This act of kindness is an example for us all.
