Livia Thompson (she/her), JBI President since early 2022, has a 40-year history working within the Jewish Community, including 4 years at the Anti-Defamation League, 24 years as the Executive Director of Central Synagogue in Manhattan, and many years as a lay leader and consultant to Jewish organizations. Livia was the interim Chief of Staff for HUC-JIR before joining JBI in March 2022 as its President. Brooklyn based and a devoted reader, being a librarian is the path not taken. Instead, Livia became an attorney, and then spent most of her career working to support Jewish communities large and small. She is thrilled to be part of JBI’s renewal as it continues to strengthen its ability to make sure that everyone can access Jewish liturgical and secular materials.
The Passover seder is about telling our story, which is often done by communally reading the Haggadah, a written collection of stories, rituals, and commentary. Without accessible options, people with various disabilities are prevented from fully participating in the seder.
