You may select either blessing.
Source of all life, my heart is filled with joy for the child that has been entrusted to me. May I be thankful always, and speak my thanks not with words alone, but with the love, understanding, and tender care with which I hope to raise my child.
Be gracious to my child, that they may grow in strength of body, mind, and spirit. May they learn to love all that is good and beautiful and true, and so live a life of blessing.
May my child find their way in the paths of Torah and good deeds as a loyal member of our people. Give me, O God, the wisdom, courage, and faith that I as a parent will need to help my child become a strong, confident, and loving person. Amen.
Recite the Shehecheyanu (blessing of praise).
How small you are, my child, and how beautiful! You grasp my finger; I hold you close. Let my arms be your loving cradle; my whispered prayer, your lullaby.
My heart overflows with joy and I give thanks.
